Mr. Albaran and his ‘prophetic words.’
Years ago when I was still just starting out, I met someone at an international conference of carrier firms; I was in my early 20’s and was working for experience. I’m not quite sure if that was my first job, but I remember that I was just earning P8,000.00 per month less taxes, and I never complained. In fact, I was very happy. I don’t know why but I was excited to work even with that petty salary. Well, I was then just a young boy and unafraid!
“Welcome to Cebu!” this was my standard greeting to visitors, especially those from other countries. I was astounded to see so many different nationalities in one place. I haven’t been exposed to conversing to different nationalities before, so I was a bit pressed when some foreigners tried to ask questions to me.
I was very inspired to see a lot of successful people. I was, most of the time, people gazing and had internal conversation in my head and wishing that someday I can be just as successful as them. Not soon, but I know it will be someday.
One afternoon during our break time, I was sitting in a sofa with my fellow event staff when a middle-aged man, maybe in his 40’s, sat just right across of us. In his suit and tie, he casually introduced himself as Mr. Albaran of Verizon business; we had a casual small conversation about our personal and professional life, but before we parted ways he said something that I can never forget.
He told me that someday I will be leading a pack of man, and people will listen and follow me. My inner thoughts couldn’t comprehend what he meant, but I am sure that he was somewhat telling me that I will be a great leader someday.
I was amazed that right after our conversation, I quickly wrote the words he told me on social media for me to be reminded of what he said; and fast forward to 2021, it popped up on my feed, and its heartwarming to read back these exact words in this time that I am already fulfilling the “prophetic words” of a random stranger from 11 years ago.
I don’t actually know where Mr. Albaran is now, I tried searching for him several times on the internet, but I cannot find him. Wherever you are now Mr. Albaran, thank you for you words and I hope you well always.
Maraming Salamat!
